Summary: I have been working for Sun Microsystems for the last 7 years, reporting in to the desktop group in Ireland and have been working remotely in New Zealand for the last 3+ years. During that time, I have had extensive involvement in the GNOME community, both from a technical and social perspective, taking on a variety of roles and responsibilities across the project. Such roles include project and release management as part of my previous duties in the GNOME Release Team, and community management and well-being as part of my day to day responsibilities being a GNOME Foundation Board director. With my profile in the GNOME community, I also have actively been involved in the direction and planning of the Java Desktop Sytem, from it's original roots as a Linux distribution, and later as a Sun branded desktop on Solaris. This involved numerous tasks, from improving the current processes within the desktop team during product definition, planning and lifecycle. I have been actively involved in bringing this product through Sun's many processes, such as open source review, export control, and architectural review. More recently, I have been involved in the OpenSolaris community, with active participation in leading the desktop community, and governance discussions with the OpenSolaris Governance Board.
