Stuff Michael Meeks is doing

This is my (in)activity log. You might like to visit my employer
Novell which is an amazing company, and also
Dell who in days of yore provided me with a
free laptop for Gnome development / conferences.
Also if you have the time to read this sort of stuff you could enlighten
yourself by going to Unraveling Wittgenstein's net or if
you are feeling objectionable perhaps here.

- Up late, nice lie-in; tidied the house, lazed with babes, while
J. slept, played in garden - Stuck in the Mud etc.
- Had Rose & Mike around in the evening - some friends from
Nigeria, great to have dinner with them. Poked at Mike's computer in the
evening - wow: my 1st hands-on experience of Vista: 1.8GHz machine,
512Mb / 80Gb, beautiful crisp 16/9 screen, but ... wow. I thought when
people moaned about it they were making it up; but - terrible, simply
terrible. Dire performance, routinely waiting multiple seconds to open
the start menu, respond to a button click, render a drop-down: and this is
pre-installed. Also, nothing 3D or flashy on show (that I could see).
Encouraging, of course Linux has problems, but not this bad.
In case it's not painfully obvious: the reflections reflected here are my
own; mine, all mine ! and don't reflect the views of Novell, The
Lithuanian Gov't or Arnold Schwarzenegger. It's also important to
realise that I'm not in on the Swedish Conspiracy.
Occasionally people ask for formal photos for conferences,
bio.
or fun.
