Keyboard navigation

Desktop

  • Alt+Tab activates the window switcher.

    • Hold down Alt and navigate through open applications with Tab, Shift+Tab or left and right arrow keys.

    • Down arrow displays a preview of any application window.

    • If multiple windows are displayed, Alt+` or left and right arrow keys move between them, and releasing selects the highlighted window.

  • Ctrl+Alt+Tab activates the accessibility switcher, allowing you to switch the focus to the top bar.

  • Mouse keys allow you to move the cursor around the desktop using the numeric keypad. To activate mouse keys using the keyboard:

    1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Tab to open the accessibility switcher.

    2. Release to select the Top Bar.

    3. Right arrow to the Universal Access menu, then down arrow to Mouse Keys.

    4. Release to activate Mouse Keys.

    5. Make sure that Num Lock is turned off. You will now be able to move the mouse pointer using the keypad.

  • Alt+F2 activates the launcher. Key in the comand name to launch an application.

  • Inside the window of an application, Tab and Ctrl+Tab move between widgets.

  • Esc exits Alt+Tab, Alt+F2, menu and calendar.

Overview

  • System (Windows) key or Alt+F1 switches to overview or back to desktop.

  • Ctrl+Alt+Tab opens the accessibility switcher.

    • Hold down Ctrl+Alt and use Tab and Shift+Tab or left and right arrow to move back and forth between Top Bar, Dash, Windows, Applications and Search.

  • Up and down arrow keys navigate search results.

  • Ctrl+Alt+Up and Down move between workspaces in the workspace swicher.

  • Ctrl+PgDn and PgUp move from the Windows overview to the Applications overview and back.

  • Esc exits search, overview.
