This is my (in)activity log. You might like to visit
Productivity a subsidiary of Collabora focusing on LibreOffice support and
services for whom I work.
Also if you have the time to read this sort of stuff you could enlighten
yourself by going to Unraveling Wittgenstein's net or if
you are feeling objectionable perhaps here. Failing that, there are all manner of interesting things to read on
the LibreOffice Planet news
Stuff Michael Meeks is doing
Breakfast and out to the hack-fest; had some fun helping
people with tasks, code reading, etc. Spent some time unwinding
why LibreOffice wouldn't compile in tr_TR.UTF-8 locale, a rather
toupper('i') != 'I' in a tr_TR locale,
cf. easy hack.
Fine breakfast, a day of training together with the
great Turkish student team - tiring but worthwhile - still
trying to put a dozen new names to new faces.
Built a new talk capturing at least my thinking on
how to tackle non-trivial problems; sucking eggs for beginners:
And also updated some older slides to the recent code-base.
Back to relax in the evening with some students.
Early up; set off for Turkey; the train ticket to LHR
costing almost as much as the flight - hmm; if only one could fly
everywhere. Poked at code and mail, and slides on the train.
Met an interesting chap - James McDermott on the plane;
doing market data development.
Met up with Gokhan and Muhammet and out for dinner
together - picked up Markus, to the hotel; baggage scanned;
checkin; up for a pint, and back to the room - worked until
very late on slides.
Up early; mail chew; research, team call; admin;
Mail chew, interview, sales team call; poked at this
and that. Plugged away at misc. labours.
Admin, mail chew, connected with a customer, lunch.
Team call, poked at tests, prodded some financials. Built ESC
agenda. Dinner, J. out, read stories to lots of babies; finished
a unit test I'd been working on.
To church early for CRB checks; enjoyed Tony's great,
final talk in The Story - chatted afterwards. Home for
a passover-style meal with Martin, Mary-Anne & family, a
lovely afternoon. Quartet practice, read stories to babes,
bed - still feeling awful.
Starting to feel ill. H. out for a leadership course; slugged
in the morning variously, lunch, out for a walk with the babes; home
bit of hackery, cleaning up some code. Out for a drink, and meal
with J. - an anniversary bash; lovely.
Up early; poked at some mail & code. Breakfast,
out for a run, back, my logical fix makes everything worse:
nice. Lunch, team call, admin, customer call, chat with Tor.
Admin. Worked lateish with Niall.
Up early; customer call, team call, ESC call, JanI call,
Advisory Board call - E-mail, admin, and no significant
A day packed with business and calls, also my 14th
Wedding Anniversary - what a blessing it is to have a
patient, kind, intelligent, beautiful wife, and to have
too little time for a fuller set of adjectives.
More mail; and calls - sales call, lunch, team call.
Mail chew; customer poke-age. Team call, lunch, another team
call, sync. with sales. Admin, customer call, board call. Up late
plugging away at this & that.
Up, NCC - ran somewhat younger kids work for a change. Home.
Roast lunch, slugging - quartet practice; Pink Panther; tea, bed.
J. out early; David popped over with ladder, and kindly
removed some bits of climbing-frame. Mike over to print out
metal etching masks, Lynn around for some baby-sitting. Lunch -
slugged and finished Vernor Vinge's short stories compilation.
Picked up Katie & Esther, and out swimming in Bury
- six small girls vs. one me - survived somehow. Home - potatoe
dinner, put babes to bed. Did a little hacking on a no-caps
valgrind-able mode for
online. Prepped for kids
Up, quick mail skim; out for a run, call with
Kendy & Tor. Customer call, showered, dressed - its good
to start early. Mail chew; poked at some bugs, lunch.
Found and fixed my font issue, added git hash extended
versioning; somehow I miss the LibreOffice gnumake bits now I'm
back to fighting autotools.
Up early; mail chew, calls with Laszlo,Niall, Andras; Lunch,
sync with Ash & Tor. ESC call, sync. with Thorsten & Bjoern.
Back to the E-mail. Enjoyed some baby videos from Tom.
Into London for Cloud World Europe; some interesting people
but overall not impressed. Home - plugged away at unit testing.
Mail chew; patch review - Armin and Michael Stahl doing
some nice work to cleanup the SolarMutex mess on Windows. Call
with Niall, lunch, more contract bits; back to unit tests.
Early up, to some exciting photos - the birth of Samuel;
skype with the happy parents - wonderful. To work. Mail chew,
lunch, team call, more admin pieces, team call; up late getting
unit tests back into some sort of shape and tweaking 'online'
NCC; John spoke on Paul's missionary journeys. Home for
a fine pizza lunch; slugged to digest; quartet with the babes -
sounding good. Lazed around, tried to teach some minetest lua in
the evening - but not enough prep. in advance.
Becky & Thomas into labour in the evening; excitement
to have another nephew on the way.
Mended things around the house - replaced cooker element;
un-blocked drain traps, glued floor back down; angle-ground
unhelpfully narrow gate-posts off and removed gates: after
near-miss with E. in the week.
Lunch; slugged - bit more unit test hackery. Dinner
with Emily; read long stories.
Thrilled to see Cedric
Ghevaert - from All Saints Church in Newmarket cited by
the BBC for Huge leap to mass produced platelets.
Early customer call; mail chew, build GOSC ranking
spreadsheet and ranked proposals. Lunch with the family - Easter
holidays are good.
Admin; customer call; chewed through some bugs quickly.
Finally back to some hacking. Helped H's to re-assemble a phone
and glue it back together. Watching SpaceX barge landing live - wow.
Early customer call; mail catchup, plugged away at unit
testing infrastructure until late.
Up earlyish; an encouraging partner meeting in the morning
followed by a fine lunch; some demos; off the the airport with
Sales team call; sync. with Kendy, re-arranged and
cleaned some lool broker code. Built ESC stats, train to
Flew; sat next to an interesting chap that sells
temperature measuring devices for giant industrial ovens
for things from cars, to silicon wavers, to steel. Hacked
at some unit testing pieces.
Mail chew, handled incoming friends of H. - Vikki's
daughter, lovely to have a cup of tea. Family returned eventually.
Customer call. Plugged away at this and that. Snatched lunch around
team call. More mail, another team call.
H. out in the evening for a sleep-over.
Off to NCC, Helen spoke on the beginning of Acts; home
for a large roast beef lunch with David, dismantled lobster-pot
climbing frame & slide outside - resorting to the angle
grinder for the most awkward bits: a clearer garden - now the
moss epidemic is more visible; hmm.
Watched Line of Duty in the evening - a good way
to loose sleep.
Up earlyish, fine breakfast - out to Dunwich to the Friary,
Museum, beach etc. - threw stones at, and ran away from waves in the
prescribed fashion with some small girls.
Back for lunch; into Aldeburgh to play in the park; home in
the evening, more hackery on the way. Put babes to bed, slept.
Early customer call; wrote bits up, spreadsheet poking.
Lunch with the babes. Admin, customer call. Drove to Aldeburgh;
got stuck into reading the broker on the way, good to see Bruce
& Anne, and do some hacking.
