This is my (in)activity log. You might like to visit

services for whom I work.

yourself by going to Unraveling Wittgenstein's net or if
you are feeling objectionable perhaps here. Failing that, there are all manner of interesting things to read on

Stuff Michael Meeks is doing
Up early; breakfast meeting near the ULB. Sat in a corner
writing slides at great length - a terrible use of good time at
FOSDEM - when I should have been chatting to people. Frustrating
to see them passing and have no time; made some progress at least
with Kendy's help.
Gave my talk; slides as hybrid-PDF below:
Out to relax in the evening; fun.
Up; mail chew, breakfast with Kendy; to the venue ...
caught up with lots of old friends; exciting times. Announced our
exciting partnership with Kolab - really looking forward to working closely together.
Out for LibreOffice dinner, not improved by transient
dancer - but improved by good company. Back to the hotel late -
up until 4:30 am or so working on my talk.
Up; off to the hack-fest; lots of hack-fest'y work. Spent
some considerable time successfully hacking at per-user memory
usage for tilebench - with some considerable success. Discussed
some awesome testing work Markus is doing - encouraging.
Out for a fine meal with Georg, Aaron & the Kolab guys.
Checked in to the hotel, wandered the Delirium crush, back for some
more slide'y action.
Up; breakfast with Norbert, quested through the town
un-successfully for night/tooth-guards - pharmacies don't sell
them, nor the sports-shop I tried; interesting - its enough to
make you grind your teeth.
Arrived; poked with Lionel at his nasty event ordering
bug inconclusively; met lots of fun GNOME guys, lots of
LibreOffice hackers. Meeting with Kendy & Miklos, worked
through some mail. Out for a dinner nearby in the evening, and
back - waffles.
Into Cambridge, heading eventually for the Eurostar this
evening - construction workers dug up an un-exploded bomb there;
got to the office; paperwork. Went over financials with Tracie.
Trains to Brussels variously; to the Astrid - synched with
JanI, good to catch-up with Markus at length; others arrived later
for beers, to my room; finished VCL slides very late; bed.
Mail chew; wrote staff reviews, had FY2015 review meetings
etc. Discovered a load of TDF and other mail in my (local) junk
folder - I'd been wondering where half of some threads was going,
Pleased to see Lenny write-up the lovely Shared Editing
work from Henry Castro, Ashod Nakashian and Miklos Vajna all
Its also great to see Marco Cecchetti's nice Impress export to SVG
work (as initially mentored by Thorsten Beherens as a Google Summer Of
Code (GSOC) project some years back) polished up, fixed and doing a great
job of slide transitions and animation - nice work Marco (who we're
blessed to have working with us too).
Up; mail chew; took E. to the doctors briefly. Back to plan
the week somehow. Team meetings variously; dug at IPC debug, pretty
groggy still. Up late with Tony & Janice.
Up earlyish; NCC playing the violin - rather a good band.
Home for roast lunch, and slugged by the fire much of the afternoon,
getting a nasty cold; bed in a haze.
Up lateish; poked at some customer logging bits. Lunch; out
for a walk in the countryside outside Exning; nice. Back to NCC to get
the quizz tables setup; popped babes home.
Annual Newmarket Pregnancy Crisis Centre fund-raising quizz -
significantly over-attended; used all of the available tables; pinched
another from the office - frantic setup & crazy folding of raffle
tickets etc. Lots of fun, home late.
Mail chew; poured over IPC logs, customer calls; sync. with
Niall; cut down a huge and horrible pivot table example for Mike.
Mail chew, more backlog removal. Commercial team call.
Poked at writing an automated test for an horror binaryurp bug.
ESC call, followed by Advisory Board call.
Yanked from slumbers by fireplace installers knocking at
the door; got them sorted out, pointed at the various chimneys,
poked at the gas supply, made coffee's.
Started on travel/mail backlog; built ESC stats, chased a
nasty with Beluga - Windows SEH seems to rather cunningly unwind
the OpenGLZone guards we use to detect GL / driver crashes; bother.
Poked at building a libreoffice-188.8.131.52 for a customer, seems
it needs a MSVS 2010, and other old bits.
Breakfast, into the office; slogged at some extraordinary
binaryurp / jurt interaction involving half a dozen threads -
managed to get somewhere finally, extracting a signal from ~100MB
of 180Mb+ of printf logging files; phew.
Bid 'bye to Niall, John, Stephen etc.; got a kind lift to
the airport from Aiden. Merge another nice dog-tag removal from
Dipankar. Travel home eventually.
Up early; hacked on coach to Stansted, and in airport lobby;
call with Kendy. Sat next to and chatted with David Ford
on the plane, interesting.
Taxi to the office; plugged away until 1:30am - essentially
writing a lot of tooling that windows, and/or Java should have.
Imagine not having any sane API to get a microsecond timestamp.
Imagine not having any sensible kernel level tracing tools, and the
ones that are provided (eg. sysinternals) ignoring Pipe traffic.
Imagine you're using Windows (and Java).
Up, NCC - ran the teens kidswork downstairs, fun. Back
for lunch. Out to play at Town Pastors commissioning with Mel
Finally got to the gluing and screwing of the new worktop;
looking reasonably good - left it in clamps overnight. Watched
War & Peace in bed with J. sleep.
Lie-in; up, set too sawing a piece of old worktop we have
bought new jig-saw blade set at local screwfix, back. Routed some
biscuit joint slots in the worktop - regretted my unwillingness to
buy exactly the right size biscuits; made some out of thin ply
Helped customer intermittently by Whatsapp over the day,
hand-holding building LibreOffice on Windows - fun. E. out to laser
party, heated dinner & fed babes.
Extended cupboards off the wall with the help of some
brackets made from random bits of bent-up mild steel - push-chair,
radiator fixing, RSJ spacing fingers etc. Eventually got a good dry
Up early; code reading, into the office; more hackery
much of the day with Niall, sync. with John and Stephen; last
minute Taxi to the airport.
Home to catch the end of N.'s video party - Back to
the future and pizza; good to be home.
Up early; train to Stansted. Mail chew, bits of work.
Flight to Dublin. Met some great guys, worked until 1:30am -
Up early; mail chew. Poked at patches, built ESC stats.
Booked travel to visit a customer tomorrow. Tested GL black-listing.
More digging at mail & code.
Mail chew; sales team call; lunch; sync. with Niall.
Started poking at some bugs with Tor, put babes to bed;
Up working together on them until rather late at night - but
made some great progress on flicker reduction.
N's birthday; present opening at breakfast. Sync. with Tor.
Mail chew, chat with Kendy; plugged away at the admin backlog, two
team meetings. Roast duck birthday dinner in the evening for N.
Up lateish; off to Church - Helen spoke. Back for pizza lunch.
Lots of babes playing 'minetest' on a shared server. Watched Galaxy
Quest - fun. Tea, read stories to babes. Up late responding to a
Breakfast, closed some GL bugs; fixed Invert's GL
trackframe implementation, and improve vcldemo to exercise it.
Reviewed some nice VclPtr cleanups too.
Lunch; David over; went out for a walk and swing nearby.
Back for a chat & dinner. Worked late fixing another couple
of GL issues around status bar controls and an RGB/BGR swap.
Mail chew; poked at customer pieces; lots of patch review
of some really nice advantages of VclPtr - cleaning up the horrible
ImplDelData code from the deep pre-historic
darkness of VCL - from Ras-al-Ghul.
Poked at revenue recognition stats; spent a while marvelling
at the mystical and horribly un-explained world of Windows graphics driver
versioning; as an exampling downloading an Intel
driver appears to happily install a
10.18.14.4264 driver; fun.
Up late; fixed GL / XOR rendering issue, and closed some bugs.
Mail chew, customer call; started digging through the
framework - most interesting. ESC call, mailed minuted. Hacked
at a new dispatch code-path, and some more (Java) unit tests
for URP behavior.
Chunks of admin; back-ported misc. GL fixes; finally
filed a big back-log of expenses; mail chew.
Mail chew; gerrit review triage; pushed and reviewed patches
variously . Built ESC stats. Lunch.
Call with Niall. Plugged away at bugs, up late polishing a newbie's
Mail chew; thankfully not so much, poked at patches,
re-worked GL / bitmap context use, cleaned up various GL warnings.
A number of 1:1's, partner call; team meeting(s).
Dinner; fixed a random 'base' bug - someone has to; pushed
a number of fixes variously.
Up lateish; breakfast, to St. Peters & St. Pauls with
the babes. Back for lunch, drove home in the rain. Babes watched
E.T. Continued 1000 years of Annoying the French - a rather
Breakfast; worked in the morning - fixed clipping issue, and
wrote a suite of new tests for vcldemo; pushed patches variously.
H. stayed with B. to make an apple pie. .
Up lateish; cooked breakfast - poked at some overnight CI
builds, pushed some patches, fixed a crasher or two. Dug through
some odd rendering glitches, to discover an off-by-one clipping
issue causing several problems.
